Why Holiday In The Spanish Islands

October 12, 2012 by James Lewis

If you are looking for the ideal holiday destination, look no further than the Spanish islands. They really do offer something for everyone, they are easy to get to from the UK and there are always plenty of special deals available.

Spain is the sovereign of several sets of islands across the globe. However, it is the Canary and Balearic Islands most people know, and love. Both groups of islands are located just off the Spanish coast, which is why they are so easy to get to.

Of the two groups, the Balearic Islands offer the best destinations for UK holidaymakers. Majorca and Ibiza are the most popular of the six large islands, which are collectively known as the Balearic Islands.

Majorca Spain Holidays

Majorca has been a popular holiday destination since the 1950s. At first, it was mainly Northern Europeans and a few rich Southern Europeans that visited the island. By the late 1960s, the Brits had discovered the island and today, they still make up the majority of the tourists that visit the island.

Because tourism is their main source of income, the islanders are very much geared up to look after visitors. They speak more than one language and the vast majority speak very good English. This makes visiting the island easy for British tourists. They can choose to eat the delicious local cuisine or stick with traditional English fare.

The island offers mainly traditional family beach holidays. However, it also has a good nightlife, so attracts younger, single holidaymakers too. It is also, surprisingly, a good destination for nature lovers. This is because inland there is a lot of unspoilt natural countryside.

Holidays to Ibiza

If you want, a livelier holiday Ibiza may be a better destination for you. It is known as the party capital of Europe, and with good reason. The island is home to some great nightclubs and during the clubbing season, it is possible to go clubbing almost around the clock. When the nightclubs are closed, you can still enjoy a drink and a dance at one of the islands many beach clubbing venues.
