Is Hardwood Flooring Up to Scratch?

December 31, 2010 by Mary Smith 1 Comment

There was a time not so long ago when it seemed that everyone was trading in their carpeted floor for a wooden one, but were the benefits of hardwood flooring really as great as everyone hoped or was this just another fashion fad?

Well, having a wood floor seems to be becoming more and more popular all the time, so if it is just a phase, then it is one that shows no sign of slowing. But what makes a wood floor so appealing? Do they last as long or will they just scratch? And can they really be as comfortable as having a soft carpet beneath your feet?

Well, like with everything, there will always be advantages and disadvantages, but when it comes to choosing hardwood for your floor, there will almost always be more positives than negatives. They instantly add value to a home, so will be a great return on your investment, and are much easier to keep clean, whilst not trapping dust or dirt in the same way that a carpet would.

And that old worry about being scratched easily? Well, basically it isn’t true. Of course dents or scratches can happen, but only in the same way that tears and holes in a carpet could happen, by being extremely careless and foolish. Normal day to day activity will not trouble it one bit.

There are of course disadvantages; a slightly higher price tag may put some off, but this is something that will be offset by the added value that hardwood flooring will bring to your home.

However, whilst it may be the best choice for a great looking room, there are things to remember – ensure they are fitted by people who know what they are doing. And finally, don’t skimp on quality. Ensure that the floor you are buying is great quality, and the results will last you as long as you need them.
