Why Visit the Balearics?

November 20, 2012 by James Lewis

The Balearics are beautiful group of Spanish islands. They are located in the western Mediterranean off the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula. The four largest islands are the ones which are most visited they are Majorca Minorca Ibiza and Formentera. They have been popular destinations for holidaymakers from Europe and beyond for several decades now.

Each island has its own characteristics and culture. However, importantly they all offer good weather year-round. Because they have such a well-developed tourist industry finding the right type of accommodation for you is easy.

The Climate

The climate fluctuates drastically. However, even in winter all of the islands experience several hours of sunshine and very little rain. Therefore, they are a popular winter destination, especially with pensioners. At this time of the year, the islands are quieter so attract older holidaymakers looking for tranquil surroundings. Temperatures reach around about 70°C on all the islands during the day. However, at night temperatures drop as low as 15C.

In the summer, the islands can be extremely warm. It is not uncommon for temperatures to reach 85C, especially during the hottest month, which is August although July is not much cooler, at around 84°C.

The Geography

Each island has a unique geography; however, they all have extensive beaches. This makes them a great holiday destination for families who want to enjoy the beach during the day and a relaxing evening meal.

However, for younger holidaymakers and those who want a little more activity all of the islands capitals and large resorts offer nightclubs as well. Ibiza is especially well known for its clubbing scene.

In the centre of each island, there are large nature reserves. If you love nature these are ideal places to visit. In addition, you will find activities such as hiking, mountain biking and horse riding which can also enjoy whilst on holiday.

Great thing about the islands is that they are so well connected to the UK. It really does not matter what part of the UK you live in you can find cheap flights to all of the islands at most times of the year.
