Kulula

April 14, 2010 by Mary Smith Leave a Comment

Kulula, a South African airline, is a subsidiary of Comair Limited and began operations in 2001. The name is the isiZulu word for ‘easily’. Though the airline concentrates on the South African domestic market it also has services that reach areas such as Namibia, Mauritius, Zimbabwe and Zambia. Kulula dominates the low-cost flight market in South Africa and has 8 Boeing 737-800s, which is a big move up from their humble beginnings in 2001.

Kulula’s destinations

Kulula mainly concentrates on offering customers flights to the major domestic areas such as Cape Town, Johannesburg (Lanseria and O.R Thambo airports), Durban, and Port Elizabeth. They have also extended their reach to markets such as Namibia, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Mauritius, though these flights are only available from O.R Thambo and not from the other airports.

Kulula’s bases

Kulula’s base is in O.R Tambo International Airport and their focus cities are Cape Town International Airport, Durban International Airport (now known as King Shaka International Airport), Port Elizabeth International Airport, George Airport, and Lanseria Airport.

Kulula’s other services

Kulula doesn’t just offer flights to exciting destinations; Kulula also offers other services such as car hire, holiday packages, and access to hotel deals. Their sub-divisions include Kulula travel, Kulula air, and Kulula connect.

Kulula travel focuses on the holidays and adventure packages; Kulula air focuses on the flights, car rental and hotel stays; and Kulula connect focuses on communication products.

They have access to great deals on B&B or hotel accommodation. Their holiday packages takes into account the fact that everyone wants something special or different. They divide their packages into 6 categories: outdoor, family-orientated, spa, beach, bush, and romance.

Kulula’s service partners

Kulula has teamed up with many partners in the service industry. These partners give Kulula customers access to great deals. Some of these companies include the following: Imperial car rental Europcar, eBucks, Discovery Health, Protea Hotels and Southern Sun, Altech Autopage Cellular, First Rand Bank and Kauai.

Kulula sees the fun side

Kulula has, through the years, become known as the funniest airline in South Africa. Their advertisements have generally been kooky and their most recent livery makes fun of the pilot.

Kulula’s loyalty clubs

Kulula has 3 types of loyalty clubs: a ‘regular’ club – Jetsetters, a club for Discovery customers – Discovery Vitality Jetsetters, and a club for their Kulula credit card customers. All 3 clubs have their own rewards system.

SA car hire companies

April 13, 2010 by Mary Smith Leave a Comment

Sometimes it is easier to hire a car rather than depend on relatives ferrying you around when on holiday. It may even make more economical sense to rent a car rather than use other types of transport. South Africa has a variety of companies that can rent out cars and other type of vehicles. It makes sense to hire a car to travel through South Africa, especially in places where the public transport options are limited. Flightsite has partnered with a select couple of companies who not only have spectacular customer service but also have the best range of products. [Read more…] about SA car hire companies

Are Blue Flag beaches worth the hype that surrounds them?

March 25, 2010 by Mary Smith Leave a Comment

Which beach or marina is the most ideal? Some would argue that wild beaches are best for holidays: they’re untouched by civilisation’s more disastrous effects. Others would argue that a clean beach with some of the modern trappings is ideal. Perhaps we’ll never reach consensus on this question that has been asked since Robinson Crusoe set foot on a tropical island.
