New Year, New You: Explore Somewhere New in the UK

February 16, 2011 by Gareth Hoyle

Once Christmas is over, with the last of the presents opened and the last of the chocolates eaten, you will want to turn your attention to the New Year. This could include booking a hotel stay somewhere to specifically welcome in the New Year, such as visiting London for the New Year’s Eve celebrations, or you may simply be in the mood to get away from it all with a stay later in January in an undiscovered haven.

Discover the UK

There is a range of locations waiting to be discovered in the UK as part of a New Year break. You could travel to the Lake District, where you can enjoy great scenery and long walks. Alternatively, you could head to Scotland where you could enjoy the Hogmanay celebrations! You could visit the cultural capital, Edinburgh to see the Castle, or Glasgow with attractions that include the Cathedral and Art Gallery. Other exciting places to visit in Scotland in the New Year include Dundee and Inverness.

You could, alternatively, head to Yorkshire, where you can explore the cities of York and Leeds. York is a stunning historic city with fascinating architecture, including the Minster, which is the second largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe. Also to be found in York are the York Art Gallery and Yorkshire Museum with its four permanent collections covering biology, geology, archaeology and astronomy. Also to be found in York, is the ruinous keep of the medieval Norman Castle. Leeds, meanwhile, is home to such sights as the stunning Victoria Quarter, which is an upmarket shopping area that was designed by theatre architect Frank Matcham and erected round 1900.
Other great places to visit in the New Year include Bristol, Bath, Torquay and Cheltenham in South West England. Bristol’s attractions include the authentically restored decks of the great propeller-driven ship, Brunel’s ss Great Britain, as well as the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge. The World Heritage Site of the City of Bath, meanwhile, is distinguished by its remarkable Georgian architecture.

North West England

You could also take a New Year break in North West England, home to Manchester, Blackpool and Chester. Book a hotel in Manchester and you can enjoy such attractions as the Imperial War Museum North and a variety of city centre shopping opportunities. Blackpool’s iconic attractions, meanwhile, barely need any introduction and include the Pleasure Beach, the Tower and Blackpool Zoo.

Alexia Leadbetter writes on a range of hospitality related subjects including ways to find a quality hotel in Manchester.

When it is Time for Adventure

February 15, 2011 by James Lewis Leave a Comment

With more and more people who want to book their private journeys the tendency is getting away from making use of a travel agent and toward looking for your personal destinations for the best price and most tailor made tours. On the other hand, in doing this many are missing out on the expertise that travel agents can give being that they have researched and even visited many of the places where they send their customers. Using a guided adventure trip is a way to fix this issue while still getting the best price to the best price to the most fun places.

Companies nowadays are producing fantastic and fascinating vacations to a lot of areas around the globe. It is possible for you to spend a week hiking a volcano and laying on the beaches in Costa Rica for below $1700 when you book at ADventurebound.com.

Some of my siblings and relatives have been saying they would take a death defying vacation before they die. They have been planning this trip for years and I truthfully never thought they would follow through with it. However, last year they went on a warm up vacation where they hiked, white water rafted and then did some hang gliding all in some days. But this year they have planned the trip of a lifetime. They will spend a week plus in Alaska. The events they have planned vary from swimming with Orcas to a two hour plane holiday ending with a parachute jump. Super excitement and it’s a vacation that will give them enduring memories for years to come. But they couldn’t have done it without booking through a guided trip company with the expertise and insider knowledge that will allow them to get fun while remaining safe.

Something I have on my private bucket list is an adventure in Jamaica. It’s a region I’ve loved for as long as I can remember and I’d love to book a trip where I am able to swim with sea life, ride down water falls, lay on beaches, and shop shop shop in that attractive culture rich country.

Where have you at all times wanted to go? Creating a bucket list is able to keep you motivated in order to have those things you have always wished to do done before you are either too old or…well too dead to do them. Other things on my list consist of:

• writing a great book,

• adopting a kid,

• driving a stunt vehicle and

• being in a M. Night Shyamalan movie.

Some of those are more likely to occur than others, but I’ll try for all of them and either way I will not have any regrets when it’s all over.

Look for a webpage like adventurebound.com and continue a guided adventure tour so that you are able to cross that adventure off your bucket list.

If you are looking for adventure tours, come take a look at Adventure Bound. There are so many great adventures out there to be had. So, are you a traveler or an adventurer?

Living the Dream, Private Luxury Yacht Charters

February 15, 2011 by James Lewis Leave a Comment

Choosing the location where my family is going to go for vacation is a nightmare. We are 8 adults and 6 kids strong so getting all of us to agree on a trip is almost impossible. Until we went on our first cruise. It was amazing. No squabbling about who was going to do what and which day….bliss.

A cruise can be the most wonderful getaway vacation ever. My family and I have now been on multiple cruise lines and we adore it. We love the way everything is right there on the boat. It is unnecessary to worry about where you are going to enjoy dinner or where you will spend the day. Everything you wish to do is right there, including a floating hotel and restaurant all in one. A true relaxing time away. That way once you go home you do not need time in order to recover from the vacation.

Taking this opinion to the next level would be gaining a personal yacht of you own. A great opinion, but one it is impossible for us to afford. However, then we discovered a company that does luxury yacht charters. The company is called International Yacht Charter Group and time spent on these boats is remarkable. I have read all about the things they let you do:

Water sports such as scuba diving and snorkeling

A crew there to cater to your every requirement

Sunbathing away from usually creepy eyes of other people

The total picture sounds like more fun than I can imagine.

They will also go to almost any port of call in the globe, literally. I think that I will visit Jamaica when I book a boat. I like the island and the beaches and the shopping. I went there once on a cruise but to set my private time frame with a private yacht charter would make it so much more fun. My family would enjoy the unlimited time to shop and sunbathe without the burden of getting back to the boat before it leaves us. I’d as well someday like to go north and do things such as whale watching. Viewing some of the biggest wildlife in the world that is otherwise elusive to me is an activity which I will do.

With the economy where it is, it’s significant to make sure that where you are spending your time and money is a position and activity that you really want to do. One with a private touch that brings you memories that are exotic and special to you and yours. I am going to go on looking into International yacht Charter Group and see about spending my time and money on a holiday that is the single most ideal trip we can search for.

These are just a few of the many things to think about when looking for a private yacht charter. Be sure to check out The International Yacht Charter Group.

Scuba Diving Holidays- How to Plan?

February 15, 2011 by James Lewis Leave a Comment

Very soon the cold winter will be over and spring will be knocking on your door. Spring is the time for travelling, for thinking about where to go on your vacations. Have you for example decided where you would like to go yet? What have you considered this year, decisions have to be made? For instance, diving holidays can be an exciting adventure.

So if this is something you would like to try then first we will need for you to get the destination sorted one that it is done it will be it high time to start preparations for diving holidays of a lifetime. In reality the preparation can be as exciting as the holiday itself, there is for example a big list of necessary things you have to consider, do and take with you. Let`s examine these simple steps, so that you can prepare and dream of the adventure to come. First of all, make all the needed reservations, book the hotel, flight tickets and any transfer or car hire, and also make the necessary scuba diving reservations.

If you are thinking about going to some of the most popular diving resorts like Egypt, Hawaii, UAE or somewhere else, remember to pack your diving certificate. If you do not have any, you can often take a diving course within the resort. Mind that this course takes time and some days, so remembering your certificate will make for a more enjoyable holiday.

Diving is great fun but needs plenty of time to get the best from your holiday, so its always better to book as long a trip as you dare, thus you can then rest, bathe, get a good tan as well as have super fun with planned scuba diving. There are a great number of popular diving resorts. Select one and start planning your voyage. In addition to training certificate, you had better remember the other crucial things you may need. Think about these in advance and do not forget at home to pack all documentation, your passport, flight tickets, medical insurance, plus an emergency piece of “plastic” just in case your wallet or purse gets lost. This will help you greatly and you can escape any misunderstandings and any unpleasant situations during your trip, with all the necessary planning in place.

As we have already suggested If you do not have a diving certificate, you are free to address a diving service in the hotel or resort. Just ask the administration and they can provide you with the all information and instructors.

When you are a more serious adventurer you will have all your own equipment and the check list expands to cover things like a suitable scuba costume or wetsuit, breathing apparatus, flippers, a knife and camera if you want to take photos under water. However, do not worry; all of these are available for rent at the diving centre. If you have in the past been diving but feel that you have forgotten some skills, then you can simply take a refresher course. If you want to raise your level of diving abilities, it is also possible to do whilst you are at many of the resorts, all levels at your disposal. Any diving course you take will allow you to venture further and enjoy scuba diving and have fun exploring the beautiful marine world.

Scuba Diving for Beginners, when you have been trained enough in a pool and ready to get into open waters, you will be first guided by the diving with instructor. But, please, follow do remember to follow all the rules prescribed whether you are beginner or an advanced diver. We wish you a nice scuba vacation and exciting adventure. Have a good scuba diving holidays

Vietnam Travel – Exploring Minh Dam Base in Ba Ria-Vung Tau

February 15, 2011 by James Lewis Leave a Comment

During a two-day stay in the city of Vung Tau, my friend and I decided to journey by motorbike to Minh Dam base in Long Dat District along the beautiful coastal road from Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province to Binh Thuan Province.

Hiring a motorbike in Vung Tau is quite easy. As we disembarked the hydrofoil, a man offered to lend us his motorbike for two days for VND200,000. After some bargaining, the price dropped to VND120,000.

We started the journey early the following day. We left Vung Tau behind as we crossed the Cua Lap Bridge toward Phuoc Tinh Commune in Long Dien District. Previously, when tourists traveled from Vung Tau to Minh Dam base or Long Hai, they had to take a roundabout route through Ba Ria. However, the journey today was only half the distance due to newly built roads.

Riding along the coastal road to Minh Dam, we were thrilled by the beautiful scenery, especially the sections of road straddled by mountains and beaches. The road is planted with white and pink cherry blossoms. According to locals, the road is most beautiful in the springtime when the trees are in bloom.

Minh Dam is located in the Chau Long-Chau Vien Mountains on the southeast side of Long Dat District. Minh Dam reaches 355 meters and extends eight kilometers. The mountains were renamed in 1948 after Minh and Dam, two revolutionary martyrs in the liberation troops.

The mountain is bordered on three sides by the sea and has many natural caves and fresh spring water. The mountain served as the military base for the liberation troop against the French and the Americans.

The base is comprised of four main sections – Da Che (split rock), Gieng Gach Pagoda, Chau Vien and Da Giang. Da Che is where important troops were stationed during the war. Gieng Gach Pagoda is located on the north side of the mountain. It is named after an ancient pagoda that was completely destroyed. Chau Vien, the west side of the mountain provided shelter for the army medical corps and security units, while Da Giang is located on the foot of the mountain. Da Giang no longer exists today.

During the two wars, Minh Dam suffered from intense bombing. In fact, bullet holes still remain on the mountain.

We also visited Bach Van Cavern and Bach Van Temple, remnants of Cao Dai religion. We spent two hours exploring the base’s caves and climbing to the cavern and the temple where we were able to see a view of the beaches of Long Hai and the coastal road. While we explored the sites, we caught glimpses of wild squirrels and monkeys.

Without enough time to visit near by sites like Monkey Pagoda, we left the base with regret. On our ride back to Vung Tau, we passed by temples, resorts, crescent-shaped beaches and the Co Temple.
