Loyalty programs at Virgin Atlantic South Africa

September 28, 2010 by Mary Smith

Customer loyalty programs have been with us for longer than a century. These programs started off as stamps in special books and eventually companies used more sophisticated systems to encourage repeat buying. Some of the first companies to introduce some type of reward were in the airline industry and they created the concept that we now know.

Other airlines saw the beginnings of this trend and decided to also offer their customer-base something to encourage them to fly more often, to more destinations, whenever they want to. One of the easiest ways to do this was to offer them the incentive of points that they can redeem towards their next flight with the airline.

Virgin Atlantic has a frequent flyer program that tries to do exactly that – make it easier for their customers to fly to their dream destinations as often as they want to.

Virgin Atlantic South Africa gives their customers tier points, which allow them to be eligible for better rewards when they reach the next level of the system. It also allows them to receive more points than someone who is one level lower for flying the same distance. New members start off at the bottom and progress – eventually, depending on how often they make use of the airline – to the top of the system.

Some of the other benefits that apply to people who use the Virgin Atlantic South Africa program are the following:

Passengers on the red level can earn points that they can redeem towards their next flight.

Passengers on the silver level receive priority standby. This means that they’ll receive priority when a flight is full. These members also have use of the premium economy check-in area.

The passengers on the gold level have many other rewards. Some of the rewards that appeal more than others are the following:

They receive priority boarding in the upper class group and they also move through faster at immigration and security at Heathrow airport. This group receives 50% extra base flown miles on every trip they take with Virgin Atlantic South Africa. And they receive access to the revivals lounge as well as at Virgin Atlantic’s clubhouses.
