Review of the Braye Beech Hotel in Alderney

December 1, 2012 by Nick Bella

When you think of a holiday in the Channel Islands you probably consider Jersey or Guernsey which are the biggest and best-known Channel Island holiday destinations but why not consider going to the smaller island of Alderney.

The most northerly of the Channel Islands it is just three miles long and one-and-a-half miles wide. Part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey it is one of the most peaceful and unspoilt places in the whole of the British Isles. The climate is mild and it is nearer to France at eight miles than it is to Guernsey (twenty-three miles) and Jersey (thirty miles).

Alderney has some of the most beautiful beaches and flora and fauna in the world and you can walk or cycle round the island or simply spend the day fishing. It is steeped in history and there is plenty to see during your holiday in the Channel Islands.

A good place to stay for your Alderney holiday is the Braye Beech Hotel. Overlooking the island’s oldest harbour of Braye, which was built in the middle of the 18th Century, it prides itself on its first-class service and friendly atmosphere.

It is only a few minutes walk to a beautiful sandy beach and the Braye Beach Hotel has just 27 rooms so it is easy to make new friends if you want to. Each room is sumptuously decorated with an elegant en-suite bathroom and every room in this 4-star hotel is furnished to the same high standard no matter what price you stay for your Alderney holiday. The only difference is the Platinum and Platinum Plus rooms have small balconies overlooking the beach.

A nice touch is each guest finds a complimentary decanter of sherry and a bowl of fresh seasonal fruit in their room when they arrive, along with the free tea and coffee. They also find a bathrobe, refrigerator, flat screen TV and personal safe. Free wireless broadband is available throughout the hotel.

You can dine in the award-winning restaurant which has been awarded an AA rosette for its outstanding service and fresh local food which includes lobster caught in Braye. The dining room is open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner and there is a fine wine list that compliments the food.

An alternative is to have breakfast or dinner al fresco on the deckewd terrace overlooking the beach. Due to the mild climate inAlderney this venue is a popular choice with the guests.

A unique feature of the Braye Beach Hotel is the guests’ private twenty-seater cinema which shows the latest feature films. This is not just a screen and projector in the lounge but a properly equipped little film theatre.

The Braye Hotel in Alderney has a number of special offers including romantic breaks, three-night breaks or a twin island break alternating between and Alderney holiday and a stay in Jersey for an all-inclusive price.

The special offers vary according to the time of year but you can sign up for their newsletter on the Braye Beach Hotel websiteso you can receive details of their promotions as soon as they are available.

The Braye Beach Hotel is also popular with companies for team-building breaks as their are so many activities on offer and the hotel will tailor each corporate package to suit the requirements of the company. For more serious corporate breaks they have a private dining room which can be used for meetings and the cinema is perfect for training films.

Imagine getting married in a beautiful setting and having your photographs taken on a sandy beach with the stunning backdrop of the old Braye Harbour. It is much cheaper to do this at the Braye Beach Hotel than it is to fly off to the Caribbean and it is just as beautiful.

The hotel already has a Civil Wedding Licence and they will organise the entire wedding for you if you wish. This includes a special package for the bride and groom and their guests, the wedding breakfast, floral arrangements, menu and wedding cake. The couple can choose where they wish to get married, and whether they want their reception in the dining room or outside on the decking overlooking the sea.
