Cheap Flights to Alicante

December 19, 2012 by James Lewis

Cheap flights to Alicante are a great jumping off point for enjoying holidays in Spain. You do not have to book yourself a holiday in Benidorm. Instead, you can travel further along the coast and enjoy a different kind of Spanish holiday.

The whole coast is now really well developed. In the past ten years, there has been a huge amount of building right along the coast and a few miles inland. Many of these properties are holiday homes, so are available to rent.

Seaside within 30 Minutes of Alicante

There are dozens of great holiday destinations within a 30-minute drive of Alicante airport. Some, like Torrevieja, you will have already heard of, others like Guardamar have been popular holiday resorts for the Spanish, but are less well known by other holidaymakers.

Guardamar was a sleepy little seaside resort with a long wide boulevard along the beach. In August, it got crazy busy with visitors from Madrid and the surrounding Spanish villages staying in the ribbon of low-rise flats and villas situated along the boulevard. Today, the resort is busy year round. The town tripled in size with high-rise resort hotels being built close to the beach at one end of the town. Despite these big changes, the town has retained much of its original charm.

Inland Destinations Within 30 Minutes of Alicante

There are plenty of inland destinations within a 30-minute drive of Alicante. The cities of Elche and Orihuela are great places to stay with plenty to do in the cities and good rail connections. The beach is only a 15-minute drive from either city.

Small towns like Catral and Dolores are good places to stay if you want to get away from it all. There are dozens of large holiday villas dotted throughout the countryside. The nearby train station connects you to the cities of Alicante, Elche, Murcia and Orihuela. The beach is a 10-minute drive away. There is a great resort campsite on the edge of Catral that offers full spa facilities as well as a series of outdoor pools.
