Diamond rings taken in break-in

January 31, 2011 by Mary Smith

Diamond rings, whether they are diamond engagement rings or any type of the items, are popular among consumers. However, because of their value and small size, they are also a hit with criminals. When house break-ins occur, often the thieves involved look out for stashes of jewellery. As well as being highly portable, they can be straightforward to re-sell.

A home in Winklebury, Hampshire was recently targeted in this way. The residence, in Lilac Way, was broken into last month. According to the local police force, the raid took place sometime between Saturday December 4th and Monday December 6th.Reportedly, there were no signs of forced entry at the house. Among the items taken were six gold rings, some of which had diamonds attached.

Commenting on the jewellery, PC Stuart Bond from the Basingstoke Targeted Patrol Team said: “These rings will be quite distinctive as they have been cut. If you have seen them, or know who has them, please get in touch.”The reason he described them as unusual is because they have all been cut as they had previously been removed from the victim’s hand due to an injury that had been suffered.

This should make them easier to identify compared with rings that have not been altered in this way.He added that anyone with information about the rings should get in touch with Basingstoke police station or Crimestoppers. He pointed out that calls can be made anonymously.

Consumers are advised that, whenever it is possible, they should place valuable items of jewellery and other small objects that could be targeted by thieves into a safe when they leave their homes unattended, particularly if they are going away overnight. This reduces the likelihood that they will be taken in the event of a break-in to the property.
