Most of us want to look our best when we receive an invitation to some event. Now is the time to invest in a sparkly cardigan or a dress with a mere suggestion of glitters that suit grown-ups. Your other options are to wear items that defy, invert or bend the rules just ever so slightly: tasteful mini-dresses, skinny jeans with heels, and dresses that show off your arms. Feel free to experiment in this regard.
Your accessories are also very important in this respect. You have a number of choices in this instance: wear items that complement your outfit or wear items that contrast. Choose one of these and run with it. This will make you either stand out or blend it. Both options can appeal to the same person but at different times. There are times when we want to stand out in our special occasion wear but sometimes we wish to blend in – at weddings that are not our own, for example.
