What to look for in womens shoes this autumn/winter 2010

February 17, 2011 by James Lewis

This season, womens shoes play as much a part in ladies fashion as camel coats or 1960s inspired dresses do. Far from being something to just throw on, more and more retailers are offering gorgeous womens shoes this winter that look like they’ve just walked off a designer catwalk somewhere.

Coming into the colder months, retailers up and down the country will be stocking a range of different boots to suit every age and every situation. Just as womens clothing trends may see skirt lengths rise due to the nod towards the 1960s, shoes seem to be going the opposite way as boots will be going higher up the leg. Over the knee, thigh high boots will be a staple piece for this season. No longer reserved for the most daring among us, ladies of all ages will be able to wear this trend with jeans for a trendy day time look or with skirts for a sexy evening look. By wearing opaque tights and keeping your top half covered you can avoid looking too risqué and instead radiate style.

The shoes scene seen clogs make a come back this summer and this is one trend that does not want to go away quietly. This season there will be a range of clog inspired boots and heeled shoes available to buy. Kitten heels will also remain popular thanks to the 1950s and 1960s trends. Perfect for the office, these shoes will come in a range of retro inspired styles up and down the high street.

With celebrities such as Fearne Cotton flying a flag for brogues, this is one shoe trend that will be making its way everyone’s wardrobe. A perfect way to update scruffy ballet pumps, these shoes provide more structure and support for the feet making them not only stylish with skinny jeans or daytime dresses, they also look amazing worn with ankle socks or opaque tights.
