Buying baby clothes online

October 26, 2010 by Mary Smith

These days, more and more mothers are returning to the workplace instead of staying at home to take care of the kids. Combine work, looking after the kids and keeping house, and you will find most working mothers have little time for shopping. Because of this, online shopping is becoming more and more popular. But when it comes to shopping online for baby clothes and essentials, there are a few things to consider.

1. Make sure you can return an item. Babies grow extremely fast, especially when they are young, and various makes of clothing differ in size. It is important to know that if the clothes do not fit your baby, you are able to send it back.

2. Purchase clothing in a larger size to allow your baby to grow into them. Because babies grow so fast in their first couple of months, it is a good idea to stay ahead by buying larger sizes. Once your baby gets a little older, his growing tends to slow down. Research to determine how much he will have grown two to three month down the line and base your purchases on this.

3. Pay attention to how you plan to dress your baby before purchasing baby clothes online. For example, because your baby wears nappies, look for items that have snaps at the bottom or down both legs to make it easy to change her. For clothing that needs to be pulled over the baby’s head, make sure the neck stretches easily so you won’t have a problem dressing her.

4. Make sure the baby clothes can be easily cleaned. People have various ways of washing baby clothes – some prefer to hand wash or dry-clean, while other prefer putting it into a washing machine. If you are looking to dry-clean your baby clothes, make sure that the clothing can withstand that method.

5. Avoid zippers, elastic or other closures that may cause discomfort for your baby. Babies clothes are adorable, but some are just plain impractical. If there is a zipper, make sure that there is fabric between the zipper and the baby’s skin. Make sure that all elastic is covered and check for any closures that have rough edges.

6. Check the price of the baby clothes. When shopping online, read the fine print for added fees for postage, handling etc. Remember, the price you see advertised may not be inclusive of those extra fees.
