Racking for the workplace

February 15, 2011 by James Lewis Leave a Comment

Racking comes in a wide range of sizes and there is heavy duty racking available to hold a large number of items. There is standard racking and a more heavy duty racking that can hold greater weights.

When picking the racking unit for your workplace you need to take into consideration the type of goods you want to store. You then need to calculate the weight and make sure you buy a unit that will hold the weight you need.

Archive racking is something that is important in any workplace as there is a lot of paperwork generated – the archive racking helps to store the paper work until it is ready to be destroyed. There are also cardboard boxes that paperwork can be put in and they can be stacked on the archive racking shelves to utilise the space on the shelves.

If you have smaller items you need to store placing them directly on the shelf, this means that you could lose some of the items. There are clear plastic storage boxes available so the items can be stored and as the plastic is clear you can easily see what is inside of the boxes without going through each box saving you time and money.

There is also pallet racking available; these units are great for your workplace as they are a very versatile unit that is cost effective and very easy to install. They are created especially for those businesses that have items stored on pallets. The pallets can be lifted onto and off of the unit with the assistance of a forklift. The levels on the pallet racking can be adjusted to the heights that suit the good that you need to store.

Here at BiGDUG we have a wide selection of racking systems to cater for your businesses needs.

The history of the shower

February 15, 2011 by James Lewis Leave a Comment

Taking a morning or evening shower or enjoying a bracing wash after playing sports or other physical activities is very much taken for granted in this day and age.

Many bathrooms now contain a shower and often do not require the ubiquitous bath tub as the shower is becoming the preferred method of washing for many people.  With showers ranging from power showers, massage showers and the increasing popularity of wetrooms, the choices nowadays are endless.

At Bathroom2U.com we have a range of shower accessories from shower doors to shower valves.  We can ensure that the installation of any shower unit can enhance bathrooms or wetrooms and we can bring the latest in modern design aesthetics and technology to the home.

However, as bathroom features, the shower is a relatively new addition to the bathroom as it is known today.

Although the concept of the shower has been developed for centuries, for instance, it is believed the ancient civilisations are thought to have used a basic showering system of keep their bodies cleansed – it was really in the late twentieth century when the shower as it is known today became popular in the modern bathroom.

Some of the earliest recognisable showers were installed in bathrooms during the Victorian period when the knowledge and equipment regarding plumbing was becoming more developed.  Although these were usually perfectly functional pieces of cleaning equipment, they were generally rather clunky with all pipe-work and other operational mechanisms on display.  There was little thought in the design process and it was not considered necessary to think about hiding these pipes and shower valves.

By the 1970s and 1980s, shower technology had become increasingly sophisticated and the demand for these became enormous.  They had become more compact, easier to install and were ideal for more modern homes where bathrooms were becoming increasingly smaller.

Buying a new television

February 15, 2011 by James Lewis Leave a Comment

It is probably not often that you are in the market to buy a new television. The television can often be a focus of family time, when everyone sits down together to enjoy a programme or play together on a computer game, so purchasing a new television can be an exciting buy.

Nowadays, the trend is for stylish flat screen televisions whether plasma or LCD and choosing the right size and brand for your budget is probably your major – if not only – concern when researching your television choice.

There are other considerations however, which you should bear in mind as these can affect the size of the television you buy and the costs. Where is your television going to go? Depending on where your television sits now, your new television may not fit on your old cabinet. Perhaps you need to consider looking at new TV stands and budgeting for an additional cost on top of your television purchase. With flat screen televisions, the fashion can be to wall mount them making for a contemporary look and a great space saving device. However, if this is the case, then it is essential to look at which wall mounts or wall brackets are required for your new purchase. It is not just a case of one size fits all and it may be appropriate to seek advice on whether your wall can take the weight of your television and what fittings are required to make this safe.

Here at The Plasma Centre, we have a wide range of wall mounts and wall brackets available and are contactable to offer assistance if needed. If you are in the market for a new TV stand, then we also have various styles to ensure you can find the right size and look for your brand new purchase.

Elements to include in your home office

January 21, 2011 by Mary Smith

There are many elements that you may wish to include in your home office. If you do choose to base yourself at home, you will need to ensure that there is sufficient space for a desk, chair, shelving, filing cabinet and any other special equipment that you’ll require to do your job effectively. You may also need, most importantly of all: privacy.

One of the most important tasks in setting up your home office is to choose the right stationery. This process includes having business cards, letterheads and compliments slips that reflect your ‘brand’: it is well worth investing time and money in order to obtain ones that are right for you. If your finances are restricted, you should consider your business cards first, perhaps improvising your headed paper and compliments slips to begin with before you invest any money in printing them.

Another element of the home office will be the right furniture to allow you to do your job effectively. You should make sure that any furniture you purchase, particularly chairs, combines comfort with functionality. You are going to spend many hours in your office after all, not to mention a lot of money on setting it up, which makes it important that you choose the correct pieces.
Certainly, as far as home office furniture is concerned, you will need at least a desk and chair. It is worth shopping around for the right furniture at the right price, and the best deals are often to be found online. There is other equipment that you are likely to require for your home office, such as hardware and software. You can usually get better prices at internet-based and mail order suppliers than at the large office supplies stores.

Other useful items for your home office include business card holders and files. These are bound to be useful as you are almost inevitably going to end up collecting a large quantity of business cards. It is basically essential to have an address and contact book, and you should also look into acquiring a filing cabinet or similar piece of furniture, as you are likely to quickly build up client literature and you will benefit from having a tidy place to store and organise this paperwork.

It also helps to have a dedicated telephone line that allows you to keep home and work calls completely separate. It also makes it a lot less difficult to identify expenses that you may charge to your clients.

Neville Johnson has a range of home office furniture which you can see online. Request a brochure or a design consultation online today.
