Texas Hold’em poker tips for tournaments

May 20, 2010 by Mary Smith Leave a Comment

No matter whether you are a poker novice who takes part in poker tournaments or a poker pro, we can all do with more tips on how to improve our game. There are many mistakes that rookie players and even some established one make and it is imperative that a player follow the following tips.

The first tip

Do not get impatient. This is the reason why countless other poker players fail to win the pot. They get impatient as soon as the blinds move up. You’ll be an immensely successful poker player if you can learn to wait until when there’s a solid hand to play.

The second tip

Allow other players to eliminate themselves and to last as long as possible. Many players think the goal should be to beat the other players. The goal is, however, to stay in the game while others drop out. Other players generally succeed in eliminating themselves. Play tight and be prepared to wait for everyone else to make your life easier.

The third tip

Good poker players know they have to take calculated risks to get ahead in their game. And the best poker players know they have to do so at an early stage. This stage is where the blinds are lower and this means you’ll be able to see more flops. Your calls can also be looser than what they normally are.

The fourth tip

You can afford to sit out one round when you join a new table. Players generally get moved around a bit so it’s a good idea to get a feel for the table at an early stage. Watch the other players to see what their strategies are.

The fifth tip

Keep a close lookout for anything that could be a potential trap. Players are far more keen to trap their opponents in this poker variation. Be as careful as possible when making a bet, even if your plan is to fold should you get raised. These mistakes could be deadly. Making smaller bets work well because it should make your opponent reveal more information about the state of their hand.
