Ways To Save Money On Your Ink Cartridges

September 8, 2011 by Nick Bella

When buying ink cartridges you might come across the term OEM which stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. This means that the cartridge has been manufactured by the same company who made your printer and are the ones that cost the most meaning that the price can quickly become prohibitive especially if you have your printer for a long time or use it a lot.

If you shop around however, there are alternatives. Compatible ink cartridges can cost a lot less than their branded counterparts yet perform the exact same function just as well. They are created to add competition, not to cut corners or offer you a less than adequate product.

When shopping for printer cartridges you might find re-manufactured cartridges and refill kits. Re-manufactured cartridges make use of empty cartridges from the original manufacturer, they are then professionally cleaned and refilled. This refilling can often mean that they can hold more than 4 times than they ever did in the first place, all without risking your printer. The product is then tested and sold.

A refill kit on the other hand allows you to carry out the same process on your own. By following an instruction guide you can quickly and simply refill your own printer cartridges as many times as you want without having to invest in a new one. Its a great way to save money and not be so wasteful.

When using a refill, remanufactured, or compatible cartridge you might find that the printer manufacturer instructs that using any other brand of ink will void your warranty. However, this will not since it is illegal, the printer manufacturer makes this threat because most of their profit comes from forcing customers to buy only their own brand of ink. By choosing to invest in other types of ink, you do not threaten your warranty.

What is 3D Printing?

September 7, 2011 by Nick Bella

3D printing is still a very new technology. In fact, it is so new that, as yet, it is still unclear exactly how it is likely to shape the design and production of goods in the future. The term printing is somewhat misleading as it often makes people instantly conjure up a machine that will print an item onto paper in three dimensions, such as holograms and the like. In reality though, the actually process is a far more impressive one.

Currently, a 3D printer would be used primarily to undertake rapid prototyping, allowing designed products to be realised in different materials and in different ways to more easily understand the practicalities and, more importantly, the benefits and drawbacks of each.

Using CAD design facilities, the 3D printer will manufacture a product by using a given material and forming the designed item a single layer at a time. Whilst this will not be suitable for all objects (of which some may need very specific attention to be made by hand), a huge number of different products can now be tested using 3D printing.

Its benefits are numerous – it can be far quicker and easier than making certain items by hand as well, as allowing computers to create items that might otherwise be too intricate to create. The ability to have such rapid prototyping can save companies a great deal of time and money when trying to understand how to maximise the potential of certain designs.

Ultimately, such printing techniques take raw material and form them into 3D solutions that can be used to more fully understand how a product will work in practice. However, it is also being touted as a potential way of engineering tissue too.

A 3D printer is currently something that can simply save time and money for organisations looking to prototype a product. However, the future of it could end up being far more important to us all.

The Power of Touch Screen

August 16, 2011 by Nick Bella

The rate of technological advancement is astonishing. Ten years ago, films depicted a future where touch screen monitors were used by corporations to make the act of understanding and displaying information infinitely easier. Today, such technology is already here and whilst still fairly new technology, the scope that touch screens can offer is already vast.

Science fiction films used to look to a future that never panned out. Flying cars and robot slaves abounded and watching them back now is almost laughable. However, today’s science fiction films are far more focussed on real possibilities and scientists have a far better grasp of how the world is likely to be in the next five, ten and even fifty years.

The potential for touch screens to grow is great, and before long, almost every business will almost certainly only be using touch screen technology. Today, though, they are simply able to make the process of gathering information far easier and the speed with which jobs can be completed far faster. They offer far greater control in terms of how large or small individual items are and the way in which information can be viewed has also been greatly changed by the technology.

Such monitors can, in some cases, be linked together to create a huge bank of screens that can display the exact information you need in whatever way it is needed and all such information can then be moved seamlessly.

There are of course other benefits of touch screen monitors: space is saved, peripherals can be removed and even energy bills can be lowered.

So, it seems we are already living in a science fiction movie and what can be achieved with touch screen technology is only going to grow. Now, with the glitches .firmly ironed out, any business that doesn’t start to use the technology may well find that, before long, they simply get left behind.

Why Recycle Old Printer Cartridges?

August 9, 2011 by Nick Bella

It cannot be denied that the world is becoming more computer friendly that it has ever been. Advances in technology and understanding means that companies word process the vast majority of their documents. It is the similar case for the education system as once hand-written homework assignments are being requested to be produced electronically and printed before being submitted.  This reliance on computer generated documents means that it is no surprise that the number of printer cartridges used a year is huge.  However, it is not the number of cartridges used that is the problem, but the number that are thrown away. In fact, the actual number of printer cartridges that are discarded every year totals at around three hundred million.

With the number of ink cartridges thrown away being so high, and still on the increase, many people have concerns about the effect this has upon the environment. It may not seem much for a single cartridge but collectively recycling ink cartridges is a very effective way to save energy and contributes towards a more environmentally friendly system. To produce a brand new cartridge it requires around three pounds of natural resources. With natural resources depleting all the time it makes little sense to just throw the ink cartridge away when they are easily reused and recycled. To recycle old printer cartridges it used far less energy. Individual ink cartridges only take up around three ounces of energy in comparison to manufacturing a new one. Also, the plastic container that is left over when the ink runs out is non-biodegradable meaning the number thrown away contributes greatly to filing up landfills which can also lead to pollution of water and soils under and around the sites. If more people recycled their ink cartridges, the lower cost of energy would make the price of the printer cartridges themselves fall too.
