Winter weather ‘causing problems for companies’

January 30, 2011 by Mary Smith

An increasing number of people are engaging in company formation as conditions in the employment market remain tough. Because it is difficult to get a job within existing enterprises, more individuals are opting to go through company registration. However, when it comes to running a firm, there are many issues to bear in mind and the harsh winter weather seen during this cold season is one of them.

Aviva has pointed out that some enterprises may be in danger of sustaining structural damage due to the bouts of heavy snow that have affected many parts of the country since as early as November. Alistair Smith, property risk manager at Aviva, noted that conditions were also bad last winter. He stated: “Last winter saw the coldest and most severe snow conditions in three decades, with no time for the repeated snow falls to melt.

“This meant a build up of layers created immense pressure on roofs and in some cases caused considerable damage to property and interruption to the day-to-day running of businesses.”He went on to advise business owners to check their roofs are in a good state of repair and to keep an eye on the weather forecasts. They should also look out for visible signs that roofs are under stress.

Mr Smith added: “The safety of staff and others within the building is of utmost importance so if there is any doubt about the integrity of a roof then the building or area should be evacuated until professional advice can be sought.”
Of course, this is not the only issue to bear in mind after undergoing company formation. However, there are many resources available to help those thinking of company registration. As well as websites offering help and advice, there are also business networks and groups that can be useful.
