Clampdown on student visas could hit UK universities

December 6, 2011 by Nick Bella

A warning has been issued by Universities UK concerning a clampdown on UK visa acceptances for overseas students. According to the organisation, the move could see Britain’s share of the international market decline.

Universities UK has released a report entitled Patterns and Trends 2011 in UK Higher Education. The organisation, which was founded 1918, aims to represent all universities in the country and to provide leadership and support to its members.

Its report made reference to the fact that the government is cutting the number of visa UK opportunities available to foreign students. This is part of the coalition administration’s pledge to reduce levels of immigration.

Chair of Universities UK Longer Term Strategy Network Professor Paul O’Prey remarked: “The UK’s share of the international student market has reduced over [the past decade], with other countries becoming more competitive in attracting these students.

He went on to remark: “This trend does not include the impact of recent changes to non-European Union student visas, which may result in a greater loss of market share in the future.”

However, while the global market share fell, the absolute number of non-EU foreign students who had gained a UK visa has more than doubled over the past decade to 400,000.

China was the country that provided the greatest number of students on all except postgraduate courses. In this field, India led the way.

Meanwhile, it was also noted that in total – including individuals who require a visa UK to study, higher education institutions in Britain provide learning opportunities to around 2.5 million people each year. This is a 28 per cent rise on the situation a decade ago.

Also, it was found that in 2009/10, universities had a combined turnover of £26.8 billion and tuition fees and education contracts accounted for 31 per cent of this, which was up by eight per cent on the start of the decade.

Send Flowers to Loved Ones Away from Home or Abroad

December 6, 2011 by Nick Bella

Individuals who move away from home for residential or employment reasons may find being separated from family, friends and work colleagues a daunting prospect. Going from normal everyday life within the area of residence to essentially being out of the loop in another place or country can be difficult in terms of adapting to new surroundings and being unable to partake in social gatherings back home. While the decision taken to reside outside the region of birth is understandable in terms of employment, educational purposes through university, and living with a friend or partner to name but a few, individuals can essentially miss special dates such as the birthdays of family members and friends. Irrespective of the distance from home, whether it is from another area within the United Kingdom or overseas, it is still possible to send flowers to suit all occasions without the need to make travel arrangements.

Online florists have grown in prominence due to their excellent array of bouquets and flower arrangements which are professionally hand-picked and nurtured to assure quality within all purchases. Flower delivery is the only form of service for companies who operate solely upon the internet; this provides a prime incentive to surprise loved one and produce a memorable reaction of love and happiness. While some delivery services only cover areas of the United Kingdom, there are a number of online florists who distribute flowers internationally.

Companies who operate online provide a time saving method of purchasing and sending flower arrangements and bouquets as orders can be made from the comfort of any home or office. This is particularly beneficial to those whose life is hectic and time constrained, but eradicates the practicality method of self-deliverance. Family members and friends can acquire a flower delivery service to send fresh, colourful bouquets to individuals living abroad, while expatriates or those residing outside the local area can repay the favour as a congratulatory gift for a wedding or new baby, or to simply make a loving gesture through the colour and beauty of flowers.
