How to care for your cane furniture?

December 13, 2009 by James Lewis Leave a Comment

Cane furniture is both strong and light, meaning that it is easily moved around when you need to reposition it. Due to it being a natural product it is both warm and durable, and will last you for many years.
At 1st For Cane we have in stock quality cane furniture in different designs to accommodate any large, small or quirky shaped room in your home.
Once you have installed your cane or wicker furniture it is important that you get the best out of your furniture. To make sure that your furniture lasts you as long as it should, here are a few tips on caring for rattan furniture, wicker furniture and cane furniture.
Cane furniture and rattan furniture can withstand a certain amount of moisture, so they are perfect for use in rooms with vastly contrasting temperatures, such as conservatories.
However, too much moisture will send the furniture loose and saggy. Don’t be alarmed though as when dry the conservatory furniture will bounce back to its normal shape.
It is important that you do not disturb the strands of wicker when damp or they will dry in the new position you have changed it to.
It is best to brush lightly with a vegetable brush to remove any build up of dust or dirt. Doing this daily or weekly will leave your new furniture looking great.
Furniture cleaner is a good product to use on rattan, wicker and cane furniture.
If you feel you want to wash your furniture then use a little amount of mild detergent in warm water.
Use caution though as if your furniture is outside then water should be dipped out of a bucket so that your furniture doesn’t get too wet. A final rinse can be from a hose pipe, with excess water soaked up quickly with dry towels. Do not sit on the furniture for at least 48 hours after it has been washed.
