Making the Most of Summer

September 10, 2011 by Nick Bella

Summer may be drawing to a close, but there is still some life left in it yet. Many of us let the summer pass us by without really appreciating it as much as we should or indeed getting the most out of it.

Firstly, for those considering last minute breaks, why not enjoy the British summer whilst you can and look to get away in winter. Many people moan about the cold winters but have spent all their holiday allowance in the one period of the year when we actually get good weather. A switch to a winter holiday can therefore bring many benefits, not just in terms of enjoying the sun, but also in terms of the amount that a getaway costs you too.

Next, why not look ahead to the home improvements that might be needed in the coming months. The summer is the best time to get out those cutting tools and do any home improvements you need to as the weather is likely to be far more accommodating. Any jobs outside or jobs that will require extra space can be tackled far more easily in the summer months and it is also far more rewarding getting out those hand tools and getting yourself a tan than it is trying to galvanise yourself when the colder weather is upon us.

Have some time off – many people don’t actually get to enjoy the summer in Britain as they don’t utilise their work holiday in the right way. If you still have plenty of holiday to take, don’t save it all up – instead utilise it when you can really relax in the most rewarding way possible.

So, whilst we still have some sunshine left in us, why not get out your cutting tools and hand tools and get those home improvements done, and take some time off to enjoy Britain at its very best.

Making Your Building Accessible

September 8, 2011 by Nick Bella

Making your building accessible is no longer just about trying to attract more customers – it is a legal requirement. Even if you have not had to worry about accessibility issues in the past, any changes to the interior of your workplace could well mean that you have to consider using a platform lift to ensure that those with disabilities or reduced mobility can still get around.

This may put off many and serve to make them only look into renovations that allow the building to remain totally accessible without the use of these lifts. However, not only can lifts be far less conspicuous than they once were, but they can actually also simply take the form of stairs and the like too, being easily transformed into a fully functioning lift at the touch of a button.

In short, a disability lift will now no longer necessarily ruin any aesthetic and therefore, when looking to enhance the interior design of your building, it is wise not to let the necessity for accessibility hold you back.

It is not just a platform lift that will be necessary though – from the right size entrances to a layout that will allow wheelchairs to easily move throughout the building, there are many other areas that will have to be taken into consideration when looking to make your building accessible for all.

However, the use of a disability lift or even the addition of regular elevators are not just things that will needlessly cost you money or hold back the designs you create – they are also going to be sure to help you not only get as much custom as possible but also potentially help you find the best staff as well since you will not have to turn away the perfect candidate for a job just because your workplace is not suitable for them.

The Benefits of Tools

August 27, 2011 by Nick Bella

Having tools is very beneficial for those who wish to undertake certain jobs at home. However, it is not just your home or car that will benefit from you having the right tools, but you too will also no doubt find many personal benefits, both physically and mentally.

Using hand tools helps us to improve many different faculties from problem solving through to accuracy. The ability to take normal tools and actually solve a problem, create something or optimise something will not only allow us to become better at many other undertakings, but it will also bring with it a great feeling of achievement and satisfaction meaning that such tasks also help to improve mood.

Whilst hand tools and cutting tools help us to be more creative and achieve more, they also help us to get exercise too. The process of undertaking home improvements is something that serves to improve our home environment but also helps us to get in shape too. Whether it simply increases cardiovascular fitness or actually promotes weight loss, cutting tools and the like will almost certainly help you to get sweating and in turn get fit.

That doesn’t mean that power tools are less beneficial though. Whilst power tools are doing a great deal of the hard graft for you, they are still promoting accuracy, problem solving and can also help you achieve things that simple self-powered tools will not let you achieve.

So if your garage or shed is lacking in tools, getting the right cutting or power tools may not just save you money on getting other people in to do those home improvements for you, but they may also improve you too – physically, mentally and, with the contentment of a good job well done, they may even be able to improve you emotionally as well.

Keeping Your Tools Safe

August 27, 2011 by Nick Bella

Building sites, sheds and garages all over the country are being broken into on an increasingly regular basis as criminals discover the potential black market value of these very expensive commodities.

By not keeping tools safe, victims are not only going to see themselves suffer the cost of replacing their tools, but also the cost of repairs to buildings, should criminals use force to see tools that are very easily evident from the outside.

The biggest lures will be power tools, although even cutting tools and measuring tools are unlikely to be spared by criminals looking to capitalise on the high second-hand retail rates of power tools and the like.

So how do you go about keeping your tools safe? The easiest way is to make sure you keep them locked up in secure buildings. Obviously people could still break in, but by ensuring that even the cheapest measuring tools cannot be seen from outside will ensure that potential thieves do not take the risk as a break might not be rewarded.

Also many people will leave hand or cutting tools out on the lawn in between them being used. This will make it very easy for opportunistic thieves to make off with expensive items when your back is turned, so ensure that they are not just left lying around at any time.

There are also products such as anti-tamper screws and the like which will make it far less likely that thieves will target you. So long as you look like you have taken the right precautions, the thieves are far more likely to target those who haven’t. Not only is it therefore important that you look like you hide your tools away, but also by simply adding visible security measures to your home in general, any potential intruders are far less likely to bother you.
