Roller skates used in fundraising event

January 13, 2011 by Mary Smith

Roller skates, rollerblades and other such wheeled devices serve a range of purposes. They can be used for sports, as modes of transport and in dance routines, among other things.

In addition, they can be utilised when it comes to community events, one group has shown.

Recently, a number of youngsters got together on their roller skates as part of an activity organised by the Jephson Homes Housing Association for residents of Dunster Place and Yarrow Walk, Holbrook, 24dash reports.

Held at Coventry Sports and Leisure Centre, the occasion was intended to bring together new residents and those who had lived at the scheme before it was demolished and rebuilt two years ago.

It was supposed to develop community relations and was opportunity to celebrate the redevelopment of the scheme, as well as for enthusiasts of wheeled sports to put their skills to the test.

As well as a roller rink for youngsters, on which kids could test out their rollerblades and skates, there were a number of other activities. For example, there were displays and stalls from a number of agencies, including the police and fire service.

Meanwhile, Jephson, which manages over 16,000 homes throughout the country, also consulted residents about what improvements they would like to see at the scheme. In addition, there was an opportunity for the company and the tenants to identify any problems and create an action plan to tackle them.

Housing services officer at the organisation Paula Clarke remarked: “Those who attended thoroughly enjoyed the event and provided some really good ideas in order to develop a closer community spirit.”

Jephson has operations in a number of regions around the country. For example, it has schemes in northern England, the Midlands, eastern England and the south and west. The firm specialises in providing homes to rent and shared ownership schemes, among other things.
