When Private Detectives Are Used in Relationships

September 7, 2011 by Nick Bella

With Internet dating on the increase, there are now two times in relationships where we may need to call on the services of a private eye.

The first and more classic example is when you suspect your partner of cheating. Their change in behaviour and/or attitude bothers you, and you begin to suspect that there is another man or woman in their life. This is an extremely difficult and stressful time, and consequently the “not knowing” for sure what is happening can drive you mad. It’s better to know and be able to act rather than keep in limbo wondering, so in this instance a private detective can either confirm or dismiss your fears.

However, the second use of detectives is on the increase, but never existed before. There is a wealth of dating websites on the internet nowadays, and more and more people are meeting the love of their lives online rather than in a bar. However, this leaves us more open and vulnerable to people who are looking for your bank details rather than the path to your heart.

In this instance, if you suspect that someone online is too good to be true or something doesn’t quite seem right, then you owe it to yourself to double check – whereas in the past you could ask their friends with them at the bar or know where they worked, nowadays it’s easier to pretend to be someone else online. Be safe, and consider a background check if you think someone is trying to scam you by offering romance. Although most people are wise and take heed of ‘red flags’, sometimes it’s harder to tell. It’s your future and potentially your livelihood at stake, so better to be safer than sorry. This helps weed out the Mr & Mrs Wrongs and if anything will free up more of your time to meet the right, genuine person you’re looking for.

Choosing a Letter Box For Your Home or Business

September 7, 2011 by Nick Bella

It’s hard to imagine what we’d do without letterboxes these days, but they have only been around in the UK since the late 19th century. Without a letter box, mail would be both open to the elements (and British weather and paper don’t mix well!) and to thieves and busybodies. As opposed to the classic red post box, which is where you post mail that you want to be sent, a letter box is for the receipt of mail at your home or business.

There are actually many different kinds of letterboxes available to suit different requirements. These days, you can get one in different sizes, styles and colours and so think not only about the design you like, but what you will be wanting to receive and where. For people who are out at work when the postman comes, the letter box should be able to hold all the mail you expect to receive, so as to save you time and money in keep going to the sorting office to collect parcels, if you are prone to receiving these. Likewise, if you have newspapers delivered, your box should be able to accommodate these. In a similar vein, if you are away on business a lot, leaving your business premises unoccupied, you might want an extra large capacity box to hold all the mail you will receive while you are gone. This can also be an added security measure, as potential intruders won’t see large amounts of mail collecting or spilling out and know that you are away.

If you want something more stylish just to add a touch of glamour to your home (or business), cast aluminium boxes could be the way forward. These are also great at withstanding the elements, as they offer great rust protection.

Whatever Happened to Neighbourhood Watch?

September 7, 2011 by Nick Bella

Neighbourhood Watch stickers used to be able to be seen on almost every lamppost as communities got together to ensure that crime really wasn’t going to pay. However, today, there are more and more break-ins across the country and Neighbourhood Watch seems to be just a thing of the past.

However, it is worth remembering that Neighbourhood Watch was never really anything more than a group of like-minded citizens who wanted to make their area as safe as possible As time has gone on, communities have become more fractious and with the ability to travel more easily and communicate online with anyone, anywhere in the world, there is a good chance that, today, many neighbours in many areas do not even know each other’s names.

However, this is not the only reason that Neighbourhood Watch is no longer as ubiquitous as it once was. The actually ability for such an organisation to stop crimes was limited – ultimately it was all about looking out for one another and ensuring crimes were reported. Many people now realise that most citizens will report such crimes regardless of whether or not they are part of such an organisation.

On top of this home security has changed too. With the ease with which CCTV security cameras can be installed, it is likely that people’s home security is going to be far more likely to thwart a crime than a neighbour’s vigilance.

However, CCTV can only do so much. Should an intruder not be able to be identified, they can easily get away with a great many items, many of which might be irreplaceable, and whilst CCTV security cameras are going to bring a great deal of extra safety to a home, it is still wise to look out for your neighbours. After all, if you can stop a criminal in the act, and call the police in time, there will be one less criminal you need to worry about yourself.

So even if you have CCTV and no Neighbourhood Watch, it doesn’t hurt to keep your eyes peeled anyway.

What is 3D Printing?

September 7, 2011 by Nick Bella

3D printing is still a very new technology. In fact, it is so new that, as yet, it is still unclear exactly how it is likely to shape the design and production of goods in the future. The term printing is somewhat misleading as it often makes people instantly conjure up a machine that will print an item onto paper in three dimensions, such as holograms and the like. In reality though, the actually process is a far more impressive one.

Currently, a 3D printer would be used primarily to undertake rapid prototyping, allowing designed products to be realised in different materials and in different ways to more easily understand the practicalities and, more importantly, the benefits and drawbacks of each.

Using CAD design facilities, the 3D printer will manufacture a product by using a given material and forming the designed item a single layer at a time. Whilst this will not be suitable for all objects (of which some may need very specific attention to be made by hand), a huge number of different products can now be tested using 3D printing.

Its benefits are numerous – it can be far quicker and easier than making certain items by hand as well, as allowing computers to create items that might otherwise be too intricate to create. The ability to have such rapid prototyping can save companies a great deal of time and money when trying to understand how to maximise the potential of certain designs.

Ultimately, such printing techniques take raw material and form them into 3D solutions that can be used to more fully understand how a product will work in practice. However, it is also being touted as a potential way of engineering tissue too.

A 3D printer is currently something that can simply save time and money for organisations looking to prototype a product. However, the future of it could end up being far more important to us all.
