Oak flooring – always a favourite for the home.

February 17, 2011 by James Lewis

Pool tables and snookers tables are a common feature of many pubs, bars and other public venues. Such places are where a considerable number of professionals in the sports got their first taste of competition on the felt.

And according to a bettor.com blog, there is a wave of new talent that is set to rock the world of snooker in coming months and years.

It stated: “As the plethora of fresh blood continues to flow in, the current snooker players will have to give way to the new talent. As the law of nature suggests that nothing stays forever, Fashions come and go in most walks of life, and home décor is no exception to this. There was a time when most houses would have basic oak flooring, but as times changed and people became more affluent, carpets began to be the favourite method of covering floorboards. By this stage oak flooring and hardwood flooring had been replaced by less robust materials, or as is often found in houses built after the 1930s, concrete floors.

Because of this it was necessary to have carpets or lino covering the floors, but because fashion is cyclical, oak flooring is back in vogue again. And not just oak flooring. These days there is a wide selection of hardwood flooring available to homeowners who want to give their property that comfortable and warm feeling which arises when you have solid oak flooring. Although it’s easy to buy hardwood flooring these days, some people have been lucky enough to avoid this expense.

There is quite often a surprise waiting for those who buy an older property when they come to rip out the carpets which have been left by the previous owner and they discover oak flooring which is in perfect condition after being covered up for years by carpets or lino. If you find yourself in this position, then you probably won’t be interested in buying oak flooring or other types of hardwood flooring, but if you have been thinking about fitting oak floorboards in your home, there is plenty of choice out there today. One of the easiest ways to go about choosing hardwood flooring of all types is to look online. By doing this you can see the huge range available, while comparing prices and the service offered by the companies selling the floorboards without leaving your home.

Overview Of Research Paper

February 17, 2011 by James Lewis

A research paper is basically a document that people undertaking any type of research, either for academic or professional purposes, use for the presentation of their findings.
Groups of people who might find themselves having to write a research paper at some point or another therefore include college and university students (who are often required to conduct various research projects, and write research papers as part of their coursework), professional researchers and members of certain professions – especially the academic and scientific professions, who often have to undertake research as part of their day to day work, or at least in a ‘once-in-a-while effort’ to maintain their professional credibility.
The exact format of a research paper varies from institution to institution, but a number of features hold constant in all cases.
For one, all research papers have titles; and most (especially the professional variety) tend to come with full and highly detailed title pages. Details to be found in the title page include the research project on which the research paper is based, the name of the researcher(s), the institution sponsoring the research and the date of the research.
All research papers come with quite detailed introductions, giving a background as to where the whole research idea is coming from. On the introduction page, too, the researcher might give insights into the societal problems that their research is supposed to provide solutions to; and how exactly the findings of their research are supposed to be applied in solving those problems. Ideally, though, the researcher must not ‘run ahead of themselves’ and start divulging the inner workings/results of the research on the introduction page; and their tone in writing should sound therefore as if they have not yet started on the research at this point, to spur the interest of the reader to read onto the document.
Another feature that all research papers tend to come with nowadays is a table of contents. The need for a table of contents in the shortest of research papers (some of which can be as short as two or three pages long) might be questioned, but there is no denying that including a table of contents in the research paper does make the work look more professional and credible; which is important because credibility is one of the factors people tend to look at keenly in things like research papers.
Of course, a research paper has to have a main body section, describing the research in question, how it was undertaken, and what it revealed. The style of writing employed in making the main body of the research paper is what is referred to as academic writing; where for every major statement one makes, a credible academic authority on the subject at hand is quoted.
A research paper has to come with a conclusion section; and this has to be written with the care – because in a research paper, it is often the conclusion that forms the core of the document, rather than the body as with other types of writings. The deductions and inferences made from the research undertaken are stated here, and supported accordingly with data as required.
Finally, a research paper has to come with an appendix. The least that the appendix can have is a bibliography of the literature explored and cited in the document’s introduction, main body and conclusion. More sophisticated research paper appendices come with glossaries explaining the various explanation-worthy things mentioned in the document; lists of abbreviations coming up in the whole document and so on.

How To Write A Research Paper – Overcoming Writer’s Block

February 17, 2011 by James Lewis

One of the most difficult challenges that students face when writing a research paper is when they first sit down to begin writing, is when they encounter the dreaded “writer’s block”. This article explains what writer’s block is, and discusses three easy ways to get past writer’s block quickly and effectively when writing a research paper.

What is writer ’s block exactly, and how do you know if you are experiencing this problem? Writer’s block has no clinical definition, but generally it is an inability to write, where the words or ideas don’t come to mind, and the writer ends up staring at a blank piece of paper, unable to begin or continue. In some cases, it is caused by anxiety and stress, and be overcome using common relaxation techniques. But more often, it is caused by a lack of preparation or lack of familiarity with the subject matter.

The first tip to overcome writer’s block is to know clearly what you intend to say in your research paper and how you intend to support your thesis. You don’t need to know the exact words yet, but the main structure of your paper should be known. If you have not yet written an outline, do so now. A writer can’t possibly begin to write without knowing the general ideas that they intend to express. If you have done your research, and have notes, review them again, and determine what the goal is for the section of the paper you are attempting to write. Once you know that, you can write your topic sentence. Writing your topic sentence should naturally lead to writing sentences that provide evidence or support for the topic sentence.

Many times writer’s block is caused by anxiety because the writer feels they have to produce eloquent prose right out of the gate. Banish that though! Write crudely if you must, but get your pen flowing or get your keyboard tapping. Don’t worry about eloquence or grammar, just get your rough ideas down on paper, and plan on polishing your prose during the revision process. No one will see your paper until you show it to them, so don’t be self-conscious about your writing skills. The goal is to get your ideas on paper any way that you can. Editing and revising will clean up any mistakes or poor sentence structure. Speak the words out loud at first if necessary, and if they sound ok to you, then start putting them down on paper.

The third way to simply overcome writer’s block is “skip around”, and write on whichever aspect or section of your paper you feel comfortable writing about. No one says that a writer has to start at the beginning of a paper and write until the paper is done. You can start at the end, middle, or anywhere you feel comfortable. If necessary, review your outline, and add additional detail and structure to it. Then pick the section where you have ideas ready, then come back later to the section that was giving you difficulty.

Any student, with the help of these three steps should be able to quickly get past writer’s block and begin to compose their paper. Getting started is half the battle, and with these three tips, getting started should come easily and comfortably.

Prepare Research Papers Easily With The Help Of Internet

February 17, 2011 by James Lewis

If you are doing a research on your favorite subject then you will definitely want your research paper to be perfect. However, you might have other responsibilities to shoulder while preparing your research paper. In such an event you can refer to those websites on the Internet which have a huge collection of research papers for students like you, who are intelligent but are facing time constraint. Referring to already completed research papers might help you to prepare your paper quickly and perfectly. However, you must be careful while selecting a website proving you the reference since not all of them provide the genuine ones.

Research papers need extensive research on the selected subject and topic. It usually requires a lot of time since the writer has to collect the relevant information from various sources, organize it and present it nicely. A research paper also contains facts need to be gathered from credible sources that can substantiate the topic. Hence, sometimes an outside help could be crucial. At this point of time the websites offering research papers can really help you out.

Types of research papers

There can be two types of research papers. The types are as follows:

– Analytical research paper – The writer must be completely objective while doing an analytical research paper. For such a research paper the writer needs to do extensive research and also provide his/her own ideas on the topic. The intention behind preparing an analytical research paper is that of offering expert knowledge on the given topic in the words of the writer. The writer has to give his expert ideas on the topic and he cannot take any sides while writing. The feature that distinguishes an analytical research paper from other research papers is that of critical evaluation. The writer must keep this in mind while preparing the research paper.
– Argumentative research paper – An argumentative research paper is subjective in nature. While preparing such a research paper the writer places argument either in favor of the topic or against it. In this case also the writer needs to collect relevant information to substantiate his point. The writer here forms a thesis depending on his argument.

Hence, the websites that provide research papers must contain relevant information on the types of papers as well. This will guide the students to prepare their research papers successfully. However, you must be careful while selecting a source from where you cite. It is advisable that you take the information only from the websites that are updated regularly to avoid citing invalid information.

A Research Paper Title

February 17, 2011 by James Lewis

A research paper title is needed to be made following certain rules. If the title is not made properly the all hard labor for making the paper will be wasted.
The following are the motives for finding a suitable title-
1) To catch the total concept in a nutshell- The title should be such that it can catch the total gamut of the research paper in a few words or sentences. It should give a proper impression to the readers about the approach and importance of the research paper. The first and foremost thing about research title is that it needs to be relevant not only with the subject matter but also with the thinking pattern of the writer.
2) The title needs to be interesting- The research title needs to be interesting enough to catch the attention of the readers. It should have the capability to attract the readers so he or she will become interested in going through the full paper. If your title is dull and not interesting enough, the readers may never open your research paper to read. You should always remember that with your paper title you are for the first time encountering your target readers and so you need to impress them from the very first shot.
3) Usage of correct terms in the title- It is very important to use the correct term so your title become more meaningful. The distinction between a scientist and a layman is that while both are using the same words and symbols, the scientist alone can define them. It is hence that the scientist knows the meaning of the terms better than the layman though both are using them. Thus the knowledge of the definition of a term gives us more insight into its meaning. For example, if I say that man is a rational animal this definition is bound to increase your knowledge concerning man though you already know something about human being. As a definition is based upon the essential meaning of a term, it makes our knowledge more exact as well. For example, by knowing the definition of a triangle, a circle, a line or a point and also their different types, we can easily distinguish among their different varieties. This can be understood by the utility of synonyms as well. Synonyms are widely used in every language. A synonym is not a mere repetition; it puts the same symbol or word in different meaning. Thus the more synonyms we know, the more we know about the meaning of a term. For example, the term honest can be expressed by the synonyms candid, equitable, frank, genuine, ingenuous, straight forward, trust worthy, upright etc. All these synonyms increase our knowledge about the meaning of the term honest. So it is of utmost importance to use correct terms for your research title.
4) Convenient short expressions- The longer an expression the more inconvenient it is. So the title needs to be written in such a manner so it doesn’t become too long.
