Card values in blackjack games

October 25, 2010 by Mary Smith

There are many rules, tips, and hints around the internet. Some of these become sites that try to help us become better persons, parents, or businesspeople. But some of the best hints and tips deal with blackjack games. More specifically, these hints give us the information that we need to overcome the rest of the players at the table.

So let’s look at one of the first things that anyone who wants to win at blackjack games need to know: card values. This is one of the things that it makes sense to know – after all, your goal is to win the game so it follows that you want to be an expert at this.

The game consists of cards that have values: the cards are numbered in the following way: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. Each card has a value that is equal to the number that it displays on its front. This applies to all cards regardless of which suit they belong to. This means that a card, eg 4 of clubs has the same value as a card from a different suit, eg 4 of diamonds. Players who draw these cards – 2, 5, and 8 – will have cards to the value of all 15.

Cards that have faces (Jacks, Queens, Kings) all have values that equals the number 10. These cards, much the same as cards that have numbers, are not affected by the suit that they belong to. For example, if a player draws a Jack and a King for their first two up-cards, that will equal a 20 – the second-highest score behind a Blackjack or 21.

The last card – the Ace – has a special value in Blackjack. It can count as either 1 or 11, with the actual number being dependent on what helps out the most with a particular hand. Being dealt an Ace and any face card is an automatic Blackjack and the player will be paid out 3:2 immediately.

It is important that you know how to total the value of blackjack games: it can make it far easier to win if you do.
