Marketing lists are the lifeblood of any successful business. They provide the sales team with the leads they need to sell the company’s products and services.

These lists have to be maintained and kept up to date to be effective. The best lists come from two sources. The first source is your company’s actual sales data. People who have already bought products from you are likely to do so again if you regularly send them special offers, promotions or information about new products.

However, a marketing list that is made up completely of your current customers is not the best list. On a regular basis, you need to market your products to new people to grow your customer base. To find these new customers the best approach is to buy marketing lists from data brokers.

Types of Marketing Lists

There are several kinds of marketing lists available. If the majority of your marketing is done via e-mail a list of relevant e-mail contact addresses is what you need. Clearly, you want the addresses of firms who are actually looking for the products and services you offer. In addition, you need to make sure that any list you buy includes the personal e-mail address of the person who makes the actual purchasing decision. Lists of general e-mail addresses are not of much use. Marketing e-mails sent to a firm’s general address tend to end up in the trash folder rather than being sent on to the person who may actually buy from you.

If you prefer to send out marketing material via the post, some data firms provide physical addresses as well as email addresses. Again, try to buy from firms who provide the contact name of the decision maker rather than just the postal address.

Sourcing Your Marketing Lists

When it comes to marketing lists quality is what you need. There is no point in buying a list of thousands of contacts that is out of date. You will only end up sending your marketing to firms that have gone out of business years ago. At the same time, you will miss the chance to market to firms that have started up in the past few years. Only buy from brokers who regularly check and update their lists to avoid this.
