Accessorising Black Dresses

July 8, 2012 by James Lewis

No woman’s wardrobe is complete without a little black dress. They are so stylish, elegant and versatile that they are an essential style staple which will never fall out of fashion. Black is a colour which oozes drama, class and sophistication and it acts favourably upon the figure, so it is not surprising that little black dresses are the most popular type of dress for women of all ages.

How to Wear Black Dresses

Black dresses may be simple, elegant and always in fashion – so you would think that wearing them would be as simple as popping them on with a pair of heels? Not the case! Accessories are very important to black dresses; they add a little something extra which really makes black dresses sparkle.

If you do not accessorize black dresses then they can sometimes be a little bland and lacking in any real excitement. If you want to really wow in your black dresses then you need to carefully choose some accessories to make the look work.

You will also need to ensure that your black dress fits perfectly as if it is too small or large, it will stand out much more than less dramatic colourings would.

Accessorising

Successfully accessorising black dresses is something of an art form. You will first need to study the makeup of your dress. If it is design heavy, for example, then you will want to wear only one or two simple pieces of gold or silver jewellery – earrings and a small necklace are good options.

On the other hand, if your dress is solid black, spicing it up with a few well places jewels could be just what it needs. If you know which colours flatter your complexion or bring out your eyes, look for jewellery in this colour and add a few pieces to your dress.

If you are wearing a strapless black dressed, then a large statement necklace can do wonders, but don’t go too large as this will look tacky and will detract from the simple beauty of your dress.

Block black dresses can also be spiced up with a contrasting belt in a bold colour. This works best on tight fitted dresses or very ‘floaty’ ones and has the added benefit of pinching in your waist too.

If you want to make a really bold impact, then team black dresses with bold red or neon coloured shoes which are sure to make a big impression.
