Leg injuries may lead to compensation claim

December 6, 2011 by Nick Bella

Leg injuries can be hugely debilitating and those who suffer them as a result of the negligence of others often take forward compensation claim cases.

One individual who may do this is Andrew Grist. He was working at Kenbury Wood Waste Management Centre when he was struck by a reversing telehandler vehicle. As a result of the impact, he sustained a detached calf muscle, broken bones in his foot and one of his toes was nearly severed.

Following the incident, he had to take six months off work. Any personal injury claim he makes may help cover the costs he incurred during this time.

The vehicle involved in the accident had a blind spot because of its size. However, no device such as a reversing camera was fitted to it that could have prevented the accident.

Speaking after the hearing, HSE inspector Simon Jones said: “This incident could easily have resulted in a fatality at the site. All employers should ensure that vehicles they provide for use by their employees do not have blind spots.

“Site operators should ensure that only vehicles that have had blind spots eliminated are allowed to operate on their site.”

Unfortunately, Mr Grist is by no means alone when it comes to suffering physical harm while at work. Many people around the UK are subject to accidents and injuries each year, and some of these go on to make a compensation claim.

While taking forward a personal injury claim cannot undo the physical damage and emotional trauma of the incidents, it can help individuals achieve a sense of justice and can provide them with additional funds to cover their expenses. These days, there are many superb lawyers available to take such cases on and people can avoid risk by making the most of the no win, no fee arrangements on offer.
