Staircase Spindles

November 12, 2011 by Gareth Hoyle

All Your Stairs provide a fantastic range of staircase which allows you to complete redesign your stairway. Leading staircase designer, Richard Burbridge, believes that the staircase should be the centre piece of your house, so redesigning your staircase can be a great way to breathe fresh life into your property. But what actually makes up your staircase? Well, there is a handrail, baserail, newels and staircase spindles. If you don’t know what all these parts are – don’t worry! Below is a guide to the key parts and components of your staircase and what they do.
Handrail

Probably the best known part of the staircase, the handrail runs the length of the staircase and provides support during the ascent and descent of the stairs. Primarily a safety feature, the handrail is also an important aesthetic feature of the staircase.

Richard Burbridge has a range of fantastic handrails available in a range of styles from the: FUSION, Classic, Hallmark, Trademark and Heritage ranges. As well as the brilliant range of styles, the Richard Burbridge ranges also come in a range of woods, including: White Oak, Ash, Beech, Pine, Sapele and more.
Baserail

Running parallel beneath the handrail, the baserail provides support to the handrail and is also a key design feature of the staircase, providing a completed look to the staircase.
Newels

Newel posts are the major posts at the start and end of the staircase (as well as any major turns) and provide support to the entire staircase. Newel posts are generally chunky, bulky posts and are topped with newel caps.
Staircase Spindles

Staircase spindles are thinner vertical posts spanning the length of the stairway. The cylindrically symmetric shafts sit between the baserail and handrail and provide support for the handrail. As well as having beautifully crafted designs, staircase spindles are also a safety feature as they prevent falls between the baserail and handrail.

For a wonderful range of staircase spindles, visit All Your Stairs. A leading supplier of all staircase parts, All Your Stairs have the popular Richard Burbridge ranges, including: FUSION, Classic, Heritage, Hallmark and Trademark, all available at incredible prices.
