Ways To Save Money On Your Ink Cartridges

September 8, 2011 by Nick Bella

When buying ink cartridges you might come across the term OEM which stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. This means that the cartridge has been manufactured by the same company who made your printer and are the ones that cost the most meaning that the price can quickly become prohibitive especially if you have your printer for a long time or use it a lot.

If you shop around however, there are alternatives. Compatible ink cartridges can cost a lot less than their branded counterparts yet perform the exact same function just as well. They are created to add competition, not to cut corners or offer you a less than adequate product.

When shopping for printer cartridges you might find re-manufactured cartridges and refill kits. Re-manufactured cartridges make use of empty cartridges from the original manufacturer, they are then professionally cleaned and refilled. This refilling can often mean that they can hold more than 4 times than they ever did in the first place, all without risking your printer. The product is then tested and sold.

A refill kit on the other hand allows you to carry out the same process on your own. By following an instruction guide you can quickly and simply refill your own printer cartridges as many times as you want without having to invest in a new one. Its a great way to save money and not be so wasteful.

When using a refill, remanufactured, or compatible cartridge you might find that the printer manufacturer instructs that using any other brand of ink will void your warranty. However, this will not since it is illegal, the printer manufacturer makes this threat because most of their profit comes from forcing customers to buy only their own brand of ink. By choosing to invest in other types of ink, you do not threaten your warranty.
