Make your beaded clothing look good by following these 4 tips

April 14, 2010 by Mary Smith Leave a Comment

Beaded clothing is great for those occasions – special or not – when you want to add a bit of flair, style and panache. Wear beaded clothing during the day or at night and be ready to attract admiring glances wherever you go. Whether you’re wearing couture or vintage, beads can transform even the drabbest piece of clothing into something spectacular.

But the biggest concern that most people face is how to take care of their clothing. Some may think that pieces with beads are much more difficult to clean than regular pieces. This isn’t always true and some beaded pieces are surprisingly easy to clean. You don’t even need regular trips to the dry cleaners, which means there’s more money left to spend on even more gorgeous clothing from your favourite designers such as Frank Usher.

Hand washing your beaded clothing

No matter that it is vintage, you can hand wash your beaded clothing, even though most manufacturers would claim to the contrary. Be a bit more careful with couture, though. Turn the garment inside out and use cool water with a specially designed detergent. Or better yet, forgo the detergent for the best results, unless the garment is especially dirty. Scrub with care and do not wring it too much.

What to do with the garment after you’ve worn it

Do not throw the piece of clothing in a pile on the floor after you’ve worn it; instead you may want to lay it on a flat surface to inspect it carefully. Tighten up any loose beading – gently, of course. Do not cut off any loose threads: beaded clothing depends on a continuous thread.

How to machine wash your garments

Perhaps you’d rather not spend a lovely Saturday afternoon hand washing your garments. Perhaps you’d prefer to use your washing machine. Make sure that it has an ultra delicate ‘hand wash’ cycle. Turn the garment inside out so that you’ll protect the beading and put it into a neutral pillow case. Use a neutral pillow case so that there dye won’t ruin your garment. Hang the garment over a flat surface to dry and steam it afterwards if you feel it’d help.

How to get rid of stains

A home remedy works wonders and would save you some money from going to the dry cleaners. You could use some club soda but do not use too much. Begin by spreading it at the outside of the stain and work towards the centre.
