Log Cabins – When Will We Catch On?

January 13, 2011 by Mary Smith

Log cabins are traditional places of residences in places such as Scandinavia, being made of natural wood that offers excellent insulation and therefore warmth for those in much colder climes. However, it is not just their warmth that makes them special. They are also extremely attractive, relatively cheap in comparison with many other forms of abode as well as being much more kind to the environment, both with the sustainable materials that are used in their construction and also in the amount of energy use they save for people living in them.

Countries all over the world have caught on, with many parts of America still having huge numbers of cabins as the primary form of accommodation. And yet, in Britain whilst many of us may have summer houses, very few of us choose wood for our primary building material.

This seems ludicrous when many people choose to holiday in such constructs because of how simple and beautiful they are. They can offer everything a normal house can offer but for much cheaper and help you to use less energy in the process. They are unique buildings and you can almost have them designed to your specific specifications, meaning rather than having a house that is the same as everyone else’s on your estate, yours will truly be one of a kind.

But it seems Britain is very much stuck in its ways.

The best place to start for those unsure about making a move to log cabins is to think of summer houses instead. These can be turned into guest rooms in which you yourselves can stay to see if they are right for you in the long term. The investment will no doubt add plenty to how much your house is worth, so the investment should pay for itself.

So why not try them today, and see if in the future living in a cabin might just be the best way for you to live.
