Make the switch to fuel cards.

January 13, 2011 by Mary Smith 1 Comment

It’s not that time again is it? Expenses. Nightmare. That’s half a day wasted for each of your drivers sorting out all their receipts and working out mileages. It’s  a frustrating, slow and time consuming process. Time that can be better reinvested more productively in other areas of the business. It always amazes me just how many companies have yet to embrace fuel cards. With one simple move you can eliminate the need for unnecessary administration and get better deals for your drivers when they fill up.

Fuel cards are the ideal solution for any company with staff out on the road. No matter whether you run a fleet of trucks or a team of sales reps, they offer the ideal solution to better managing your driving expenses. So how do they work? Well they a bit like a credit card, but specifically for fuel. You can have an arrangement for fuel only or one that includes extras from the services or the garage shop. You can set limits and track mileages so people can’t run up bills for personal fuel or abuse the system in anyway. By having one centralised account for all fuel purchases, you eliminate individual administration and expense claims. Plus by using one account you can get better rates for petrol and diesel.

Each fuel card is registered to a particular vehicle and can only be used for fuel purchases by that driver. The system is efficient and foolproof. It’s no wonder more and more fleet managers and accounts departments are signing up for fuel card schemes. So if you are losing time to multiple expense claims and have a sneaking suspicion you are not getting value for money on fuel purchases, then it could be time to switch across to a fuel card scheme. Your drivers and your financial director will thank you for it.
