Fancy dress is always a hit at social gatherings and it can add a whole new dimension to them.Sometimes, competitions are run to see which fancy dress costumes are the most effective, with prizes handed out to the winners.

Such a contest recently took place in Bushey, the Watford Observer reports.

Around 250 people attended the event at the King George Recreation Ground and, as well as a fancy dress competition, there was also a treasure-hunt style trail which saw visitors seek clues around the area.

Those pitting their fancy dress costumes against one another had to impress judge on the day mayor Linda Silver.

In total, around 50 youngsters took part in the battle, all dressed up in their various outfits.

The winner, Asher Gregory, had donned a headless man costume, which certainly got plenty of attention from the crowd.

Councillor Silver described the winning costume as “very unusual”.

She went to say she was pleased with the response the event got, adding: “All the children who took part were given lots of sweets and all enjoyed themselves. It was lovely to see so many children taking part.”

Second place in the contest went to Franki Pashias, who turned up dressed as Dracula.

Meanwhile, continuing the spooky theme, Katie Howes took the third spot dressed as a witch.

The celebration was arranged by Hertsmere Borough Council in conjunction with the Friends of King George Recreation Ground and Bushey Schools’ Consortium.

Secretary of the Friends Christina Bradley remarked: “It was great to see so many people in the park, enjoying the trail and having fun together.”

At this time of year, many people may be attending festive-themed fancy dress parties.

In order to source their clothing for the events, a large number of them might look online, as it can be fast and convenient as a means of sourcing such garments, along with the accessories needed to go with them.
