How to choose the right paint brush..

February 17, 2011 by James Lewis

If you’ve got some painting to do at home and you pop down to the hardware store to get some supplies, you are going to be confronted by a huge choice of paint brushes. Shelves of them. So many different manufacturers, lots of different sizes and of course a huge variety of quality. The amateur decorator is usually swayed by price or brand, because they don’t know what else to look out for you. However, by being a bit more clued up, you can make a much better choice. How many times have you seen bristles stuck in paintwork? This is an obvious sign of a poor quality paint brush. So what should you be choosing?

When it comes to paint brushes you need to choose the bristles carefully to make sure they are of acceptable quality. Look for natural fibre, nylon blends or polyester filament.

Natural fibres are best suited if you are working with oil based paints. The same is true of varnishes and stains. Where they aren’t so good is when you need to work with latex based paint.

A paint brush with synthetic fibres is very versatile. They are durable because of the firmness of the bristles. You can use them with pretty much any sort of paint. So there’s a quick guide to the bristles, but what about the handle? Bet you hadn’t even given it any sort of thought at all?

Wood is best. This is because it’s strong without being too heavy. If you have a big job you don’t want to get cramp in your hands. You don’t want to throw your brush away after one use. Choose one that has a stainless steel ferrule which last and last. If you look after your brush it might last you a good few years at least.

So there you have it. Choose a little more carefully and invest a little extra and you’ll have some great brushes you can use over and over again, and do a great job too.

Could Ed Miliband benefit as a result of tax rules?

February 17, 2011 by James Lewis

Many people make an effort to engage in asset protection and tax planning and it has been argued that, should Ed Miliband adopt such behaviour, he could stand to reap significant rewards.

The Labour politician currently resides in a home based in north London that is said to be worth around £1.6 million.

According to the Daily Telegraph, he was able to purchase the residence thanks to a “series of shrewd moves in the housing market”.

Obviously, if the Oxford Graduate was to put his home on the market, he would be likely to achieve a significant financial boost.

However, it has been suggested that thanks to his marital status, he could take advantage of tax rules to get even more cash.

Currently, the MP lives with his girlfriend Justine Thornton, which whom he has one child and another on the way.

Because they have not tied the knot, each of the pair would be able to nominate different properties as their primary residences and so legitimately avoid capital gains tax if one of them was sold.

However, a spokesperson for Mr Miliband suggested that neither one of the couple have any intention of doing this.

He stated: “Ed and Justine have always paid all and any taxes they were liable for. When they moved into their home together, they did so by selling their respective flats.

“Each of these flats were primary residences, as you would expect them to be. Ed and Justine enjoy independent careers and they have never sought to benefit financially from their unmarried status.”

Many consumers around the UK will be seeking to engage in effective asset protection and tax planning at present in order to ensure they keep their finances in good order despite the economic pressure being felt as a result of the recession.

Choosing Your First Yoga Clothes

February 17, 2011 by James Lewis

Yoga is a wonderful form of exercise for good health, relaxation, stress release, and generally good for promoting physical wellbeing. If you are new to the practice of yoga, you probably have some questions about what you need before you start your first classes. For instance, what do you need in the way of yoga clothing? Here are some tips to help you buy your first yoga clothes.

First, think about what makes you feel comfortable. In the summer, what sort of clothing do you wear to keep cool? If you like shorts or Capri pants, it makes sense to look for a similar style of pants for yoga. The same goes for tops. Your clothing should be loose fitting enough to feel comfortable and allow plenty of room for movement and breathing, but not so loose that your body’s shape is lost in the folds of clothes. Your instructor needs to be able to see your body and the way it moves to help you do your stretches and moves correctly.

Men sometimes prefer longer pants and T-shirts, with a no-fuss sort of feel. Clothing that looks like general gym wear or casual clothing is usually preferable for men.

Now, pick some clothes you like. Yoga clothes don’t have to boring. They come in all different colours and styles. Don’t feel that you have to buy standard yoga clothing simply because that’s what others in your class are wearing, or other people you know are wearing for yoga. You should always wear clothing you feel good about, and that makes you feel confident, happy, and ready for anything.

If you are doing yoga as stress relief or to combat depression, you want to consider some brighter coloured clothes—perhaps some pink or yellow. The brightness of these hues may help to enhance a good mood.

Yoga clothes are often made of soft, organic cotton and can be very comfortable for lounging around in even if you never intend to take a yoga class.

Another idea is to buy loungewear. Cosy pants, tops, robes, and more are made for wearing around the house, but who says they have to be for just those lazy days when you are home alone? Even pyjamas can be worn as casual everyday clothing with all the cute, colourful designs available. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between a cute pyjama top and a normal casual top anyway.

You can also use discount, auction, and second hand sites like Ebay, Craigslist, and Gum Tree to find used comfortable clothing that still has a lot of wear left in it.

Or, if you want something no one else has, why not try having some casual clothes handmade for you? Etsy, Folksy, and Artfire make great places to look for custom made clothing.

So, the next time you think you want something really comfortable to wear around the house, skip the conventional clothing stores and think creatively. Why not buy those cute yoga clothes you saw? Who says you have to learn yoga to wear something cute?
